Styles’ album “Harry’s House” won the highly coveted album of the year award, while his synth pop hit “As It Was” won song of the year. He also won the awards for best pop/R&B act and artist of the year, one of the BRIT Awards’ two gender-neutral categories.
However, some were critical of the fact that all the candidates for the artist of the year award were men. In his acceptance speech, Styles acknowledged his privilege and dedicated the award to female singers in the industry.
Styles, who rose to fame as a member of the boy band One Direction, now enjoys a successful solo career. He won two Grammy Awards last week, including album of the year, further cementing his position as one of the biggest names in pop music.
