Scientology “distanced” Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, according to a new book.

A new book by Mike Rinder, A Billion Years: My Escape from the Highest Ranks of Scientology, makes shocking revelations concerning Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s marriage. The book describes how Scientology distanced Cruise from Kidman, a “bad influence” in the church’s eyes.

Rinder, a former high-ranking church officer, talks about the moment during Cruise and Kidman’s marriage when the actor began ignoring Scientology Chief David Miscavige’s calls while filming Eyes Wide Shut in London. Page Six says Rinder brought Cruise back to Scientology Miscavige sent Marty Rathbun, a well-known church leader, to the UK to audit Cruise, a process that walks a person through their life to get rid of bad things and reach a “clean” state.

According to Mike, this procedure lured the actor back into Scientology. He also adds how this reassociation “distanced [Cruise and Nicole].” Rinder says in his book that the church felt intimidated by Kidman’s influence on Cruise and that “Rathbun conspired with [Hollywood lawyer] Bert Fields to spy on Nicole and tap her phone,” per Page Six.

Rinder’s book also claims that Miscavige was delighted Nicole wasn’t “dragging Tom away” after the pair divorced in 2001.
