Together, Drishyam 2 and Bhediya had a very good weekend at the box office, which shows that business is starting to pick up again for Bollywood movies.
Drishyam 2 was the most popular movie in its second week, and Bhediya was the second most popular movie in its first week. Together, the two movies made over Rs. 65 crore net over the weekend.
Drishyam 2, which was directed by Ajay Devgn, kept doing well on Monday, with numbers that were only 30% lower than on Friday. Since there won’t be any big movies coming out until Avatar: The Way of Water, Drishyam 2 is expected to make even more money and aim for a lifetime total of over Rs. 200 crore nett in India. On its second Tuesday, which is its 12th day of selling tickets, it will pass Rs. 150 crore net.
Even though Ajay Devgn isn’t as well known abroad as he is in the United States, the movie is doing pretty well at the international box office. The movie is likely to make more than $5 million tomorrow and is on track to make between $6 and 7.5 million in total.
Bhediya, which stars Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, started off with low numbers but got better as the weekend went on. On Monday, the movie did only half as well as it did on Friday, so it needed a much stronger hold. The movie’s fate is pretty much set after making about Rs. 3.50 crore on Monday. Depending on how well it holds up over time, the movie will try to make between Rs. 50 crore net and Rs.
