“Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani” Celebrates 10 Years of Capturing Hearts

A decade ago, the enchanting coming-of-age film “Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani” graced the silver screen, leaving an indelible mark on the Bollywood landscape. The movie followed the journey of four friends, capturing their growth from carefree college days to adulthood. Deepika Padukone portrayed Naina, the studious and introverted protagonist nursing a secret crush on Kabir, brought to life by Ranbir Kapoor, a spirited and adventurous soul yearning for a career in journalism and worldly experiences.

To honor this milestone, fans worldwide, as well as the cast and crew, shared humorous anecdotes and heartfelt messages, reminiscing about their connection to the film.

Director Ayan Mukerjee curated a delightful compilation of notable moments, accompanied by a sincere tribute to the film’s steadfast supporters. He expressed, “YJHD – My second child, a piece of my heart and soul – 10 years old today! Making this movie was one of the greatest joys of my life. What we achieved with it, with all its imperfections and perfections, fills me with everlasting pride!”

While Mukerjee admitted to not having watched the film in its entirety since its release, he envisioned revisiting it annually in the future, acknowledging its profound influence on his perspective and capturing a significant part of his life.

In recent months, Mukerjee found that people often recognized him and approached him not about his forthcoming project, Brahmāstra, but rather to discuss their fondness for “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.” He expressed deep gratitude to those who formed a deep connection with the film over the years.

The director also shared a Director’s Note he had written at the time, evoking a rush of memories and emotions. He described “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” as a blend of encounters and obsessions, a narrative that navigates the exhilarating and terrifying journey of four characters through their youth. From their carefree laughter during a college getaway to the bittersweet tears shed at their first friend’s wedding, the film aims to encapsulate the essence of their lives and evoke happiness, joy, sadness, and nostalgia in its viewers.

Mukerjee further delighted fans by unveiling previously unseen photos of himself with Padukone and Kapoor, adding an extra layer of sentimentality to the anniversary celebration.

Actors like Deepika Padukone and Kalki Kanmani also joined the commemoration. Padukone took to Instagram, sharing the film’s trailer alongside the caption, “A piece of my heart.” Meanwhile, Kanmani, who portrayed the vibrant and outspoken Aditi, reflected on the incredible experience of working with the cast. She expressed her gratitude for the memories they created, remarking on how they have all grown and learned since then, yet certain aspects remain unchanged. Kanmani playfully noted that Padukone will always teach them dance steps they struggle to follow, Aditya Roy Kapur will forever embody their own “Big Lebowski,” Ranbir will continue to pull off pranks that make them squeal, and Ayan Mukerjee will persist in asking uncomfortably personal questions that lead to the best conversations.

Fans enthusiastically marked the anniversary by sharing their favorite scenes and moments from the film across various social media platforms, reaffirming the lasting impact of “Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani” in their hearts.
